Cannock Chase Council has officially adopted its Local Plan for the next 16 years. Councillors voted through the Cannock Chase Local Plan 2018–2040 on Monday, setting out exactly where new homes, businesses and development will be built across the district.
The plan represents seven years of work, including public consultations and expert examination. A major achievement is that Cannock now has a guaranteed five-year housing supply for the first time since 2023. This reduces the likelihood of speculative building proposals that bypass proper planning controls. Without this plan, Cannock would have faced tougher housing targets imposed by central government.
Portfolio Leader Garry Samuels highlighted the plan's broader benefits. "The plan protects green spaces, supports jobs and investment, and keeps an eye on climate change," he said. The process involved input from council members, officers, partners, developers, residents and businesses, ensuring a shared approach to Cannock's future development.
The adoption of this Local Plan gives communities in Cannock proper clarity about what development is coming their way over the next two decades. Residents and businesses can now plan with confidence, knowing where growth will and won't happen across the district.
