Cannock Chase Council is inviting children aged 16 and under to suggest names for its new fleet of food waste collection wagons. The competition offers young residents the chance to see their winning names displayed on six vehicles travelling across the district. Entries must be submitted by Friday 11 September.
The naming competition comes after the food waste collection service launched at the end of April. The response from Cannock residents has been impressive, with over 300 tonnes of food waste recycled in just four weeks. This amount is equivalent to the weight of two blue whales.
Winners of the Cannock naming competition will receive a certificate, an eco-themed goody bag, and a photo opportunity with their newly named wagon. These prizes recognise the children's contribution to the district's waste reduction efforts.
The food waste scheme has already made a measurable impact on Cannock's recycling rates. By diverting food waste from general bins, the service has reduced the volume of rubbish in standard collections. This improvement demonstrates strong community participation in the environmental initiative.
Children across Cannock can submit their wagon name ideas by emailing [email protected] before the 11 September deadline. This is an opportunity for young people to play an active role in their local community's sustainability efforts.
