Two primary schools in Cannock Chase have achieved national recognition for their work protecting bumblebees and pollinators. St Peter's Primary School has secured Gold Status while Chancel Primary School has won Silver Status through the Bumblebee Conservation Trust's Bee Friendly School Award.
The Bumblebee Friendly Schools Programme
The Bumblebee Friendly Schools Programme, backed by Cannock Chase District Council, has signed up 13 schools across the district. The initiative teaches pupils about pollinators and biodiversity, helping them understand practical steps they can take to support bees in their school grounds and at home.
Council officers have been working with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust to deliver introductory workshops at participating schools.
Recognition for Participating Schools
Councillor Richard Craddock, Deputy Leader at the council, praised the two schools for their enthusiasm and commitment. Mrs Hayward from St Peter's said pupils have "loved learning about bumblebees" and taking practical steps to welcome pollinators, while Miss Jones from Chancel Primary noted that children have been "eager to share their learning with families at home."
