Heath Week returns in 2026, running from Monday 27 July to Sunday 2 August, offering residents and visitors the chance to celebrate and explore the purple heathlands of Cannock Chase.
The week is organised to highlight the importance of this rare habitat and features family-friendly activities designed to help people discover the rich wildlife of local heathlands, understand their ecological value, and learn how to help protect them.
Guided Walks at Hednesford Hills
A highlight of the programme is a series of guided Heath Week Walks led by Cannock Chase Council's countryside team at Hednesford Hills, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Two walks are scheduled:
Thursday 30 July, 10:00am–11:30am
Saturday 1 August, 10:00am–11:30am
The relaxed walks will give participants an opportunity to explore the heathland landscape and discover the wide variety of species that call it home—from vibrant wildflowers to fascinating invertebrates. Participants will also learn how the Council manages the site to conserve and enhance its biodiversity.
The walks are suitable for all ages with plenty of opportunities to stop, observe and learn along the way. Places are free but must be booked in advance via Eventbrite, as spaces are limited.

Families can also extend their outdoor adventure by downloading the Cannock Chase Can App, which features interactive Story Walks in Cannock Park, Hednesford Park, Elmore Park and Ravenhill Park. Each Story Walk includes 10 hidden QR codes that unlock facts, mini activities and challenges when scanned.
