A police officer based in Cannock has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting women. Alex Trusler, 36, from Burntwood, admitted four counts of sexual assault on a female at Northampton Crown Court on Friday. The offences date back to 2022 and 2023.

Trusler was a response officer with Staffordshire Police. He was suspended in September 2023, as soon as the allegations were reported to the force.

Investigation and misconduct proceedings

Following the allegations, Staffordshire Police's Anti-Corruption Unit carried out a thorough investigation. Trusler will also face misconduct proceedings in addition to criminal charges.

Deputy Chief Constable Caroline Marsh said: "His actions had been a fundamental betrayal of the standards every member of Staffordshire Police is expected to uphold.

"The moment these allegations were reported, he was suspended and a thorough investigation by our Anti-Corruption Unit began. His guilty pleas reflect the seriousness of his behaviour, which has no place in policing."

Sentencing

Trusler is due to be sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on 8 September.
