Cannock Chase District Council has appointed two carpentry apprentices, Ollie Kite and Conor Edwards, following a recruitment campaign that attracted significant applications from local candidates.
The council received a high number of applications from aspiring tradespeople across the area. Both apprentices were selected after a thorough recruitment process that the council described as competitive and challenging due to the calibre of applicants.
About the apprentices
Conor Edwards is a mature apprentice who impressed interviewers with his calm approach and commitment to building a long-term career in the social housing sector. The council cited his life experience and level-headed attitude as strengths he will bring to the role.
Ollie Kite began his journey with the council through a work experience placement while attending a local school. During that placement, he demonstrated enthusiasm for carpentry and interest in supporting customers and communities through the organisation's work. He has since worked to develop his skills and pursue a permanent position with the council.
Council commitment to apprenticeships
Councillor Melissa Cecil, Portfolio Leader for Housing and Corporate Assets, said the council is "thrilled to welcome Ollie and Conor to the team" and praised the quality of candidates who applied.
Cecil added that investing in apprenticeships is part of the council's commitment to developing local talent, creating employment opportunities and ensuring high-quality repairs and maintenance services for customers.
Ollie and Conor will now begin their apprenticeships, working alongside experienced colleagues to develop practical skills and knowledge for careers in the housing sector.
